Police inaugurate website to check bribery, indiscipline

The Nigeria Police Command has inaugurated a website, www.stopthebribes.net, as part of measures to stop bribery and other forms of indiscipline in the Force.

The Force also deployed 259 specially designated “Safer Highway Patrol Vehicles” in place of road blocks which had been banned.

Court orders GTB to refund customer’s N5.3bn

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Apo, Abuja,  on Monday ordered the Guaranteed Trust Bank Plc to refund N5.3bn illegally withdrawn from the account of one its customers, Dr. Ted Iseghohi Edwards.

Justice Valentine Ashi in his judgment ordered that the N5.3bn should attract 10 per cent interest from Monday, when judgment was delivered, till the time the money was paid back to the owner.

Kidnapping beyond my govt’s capacity – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has pleaded with the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, to tackle the spate of kidnapping in his state, saying the increasing crime wave is beyond the capacity of the state government.


Fayose who visited the IG at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Monday, noted that the State Police Command was also powerless to stem the crime situation in the state.

Woman charged for raping sleeping man

A 28-year-old, Chantae Marie Gilman, from Washington, USA, has been arrested and charged after she admitted breaking into the home of a man in the dead of night and raping him, the Mirror UK reports.

Police say the horrified victim awoke to find Gilman who weighs nearly 16 stone, on top of him while holding his hands above his head.

Jonathan sacks NIPC boss, names replacement

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday sacked the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Mrs. Saratu Altine Umar, with immediate effect.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President approved the appointment of Mrs. Uju Aisha Hassan-Baba as Umar’s replacement.

Jonathan attends ECOWAS summit in Accra

President Goodluck Jonathan will on Tuesday leave Abuja to attend the 47th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government holding in Accra, Ghana.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President would be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali; House of Representatives Majority Leader, Mrs. Mulikat Akande and some of his principal aides.

ASUU protests members’ kidnaps in Ekiti

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ekiti State University chapter, on Monday, in Ado Ekiti, protested against the kidnap of their members and issued a five day ultimatum to government to secure their release.

Failure to do this, the union said, it would not hesitate to embark on an indefinite strike till situation returned to normal.

PDP Shuts Down Social Media Platforms


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shut down its social media platforms, saying some of them have been hijacked. ? The PDP, through its verified Twitter handle @PdpNigeria, had said on Sunday that it was taking responsibility for the country’s low points during the party’s 16-year reign.

But Olisa Metuh, PDP spokesman on Monday said the statement did not represent the position of the party, adding that its Twitter account was hacked. “The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) observed that in the course of the 2015 campaigns, personal positions and opinions of our party members were generally reported in many instances by the media as official positions of the PDP”

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has said that his new wife, Lara, was not a model professionally, although she is a model to him. He, meanwhile, said his new wife was not a replacement for his late wife, Clara, whom he said was irreplaceable.

EFCC re-arraigns Sylva for N2.45bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday re-arraigned a former governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Timipre Sylva, before a Federal High Court in Abuja for fraud involving about N2.45bn.

The accused allegedly committed the offence between October 2009 and February 2010 as governor of Bayelsa State.

He pleaded not guilty to all the six counts when he was re-arraigned before Justice Evoh Chukwu on Monday.

Court jails 6 men for causing public nuisance, unlawful assembly in Abuja

A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced six men to two months imprisonment each, for causing public nuisance and unlawful assembly.

The convicts, Umar Rabiu, Hassan Sani, Madaha Sagiru, Sani Nura, Hayatu Abdullahi and Musbau Yusufu, had pleaded guilty to the charges.

Two members of an armed robbery gang, Lukmon Bello and Jide Abbass, have met their albatross when they tried to rob a man who turned out to be a senior police officer, as they were not only shot but arrested.

The duo who specialized in robbing people while withdrawing money from banks in Lagos and Ogun States, thought it was business as usual when they attacked a man and tried to snatch a bag containing some money in front of a business center in Oke-Ilewo area of Ogun State.

77 die in road traffic accidents in Osun

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Osun, on Monday said it recorded 77 deaths from road traffic crashes in the state between the months of January and April.

Mr Muhammad Husaini, the Sector Commander, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo.

According to Husaini, a total of 94 crashes involving 750 persons occurred in the state within the period under review.
