Federal Government borrowed N473bn to finance the 2015 budget.

The Federal Government on Tuesday said it had within the past four months, borrowed the sum of N473bn to finance the 2015 budget.

The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, stated this during a media briefing on the 2015 budget, which was passed last week by the National Assembly.

The Senate had last week Tuesday passed the national budget of N4.493tn for the 2015 fiscal year, about five months after it was presented by Okonjo-Iweala.

Jonathan appoints Gbenga Daniel, Others.

President Goodluck Jonathan has announced the appointment of some key members of the Peoples Democratic Party as Chairmen of the Governing Councils of some federal universities, with three weeks left for his administration.

While a former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is the Chairman, Governing Council of Federal University in Kashere, Gombe State; a former Deputy Governor of Osun State and ex-Minister of State for Defence, Chief Olusola Obada, heads the Governing Council of the Federal University in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

Lagos-Maiduguri trekker arrives in Ilorin

Mr. Hassan Umar, who commenced  trekking from  Lagos to Maiduguri, arrived in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday night in continuation of  his journey.

Umar, 36, who is from Borno State, commenced the trekkin on Friday.

He said he works with a construction firm, Shelter Care Company, in Lagos since 2005, and had been living in Lagos since 2000.

Mua’zu, others shun PDP post-election panel inauguration

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, and three state governors named as members of the party’s 15-member Post-Election Assessment Committee, on Tuesday shunned the inauguration of the panel.

Governors Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Theodore Orji (Abia) and Ibrahim Dankwabo (Gombe) and the  Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees, Alhaji Walid Jibril, who was the secretary to the committee, did not turn up for the event, which held at the PDP headquarters in Abuja.

Floyd Mayweather has said he is willing to grant Manny Pacquiao a rematch following the Filipino boxer’s disclosure that a shoulder injury hampered his performance in last weekend’s world title showdown, ESPN reported Tuesday.

Chris Bode appointed LUTH Chief Medical Director

THE Federal Government has approved the appointment of Prof Christopher Bode as the new Chief Medical Director of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba, with effect from March 25, 2015.

Bode has been acting as the CMD of LUTH, since the immediate past CMD, Prof Akin Osibogun, left office, last year. According to a statement from LUTH signed by the Head Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Hope Nwawolo, “Bode, a 59-year old renowned Paediatric Surgeon, hails from Ejigbo, Osun state.

Fayose sacks Perm Sec

A Permanent Secretary in the Ekiti State Civil Service, Mr. Tunde Alokan, has been sacked by Governor Ayodele Fayose, it was learnt on Monday.

Alokan until his removal was the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Office of Establishment.

A source said Alokan was relieved of his job because of his closeness to a former state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
