Exit poll puts Tories close to majority

The survey taken at polling stations across the UK suggests the Tories will get 316 MPs to Labour's 239 when all the results have been counted.

It suggests the Lib Dems will get 10 MPs, the SNP 58, Plaid Cymru 4, UKIP 2 and the Greens two.

The exit poll was conducted by NOP/MORI for the BBC, ITV and Sky.

If the exit poll is accurate, as it was in 2010, David Cameron could be on course to remain prime minister as the head of a minority government without the need for a coalition - although he might have to rely on the support of the DUP or the Lib Dems.

Senate passes AMCON ammendment Bill

The Senate on Thursday passed into law, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria Act, 2010 amendment bill.

The amendment bill is meant to remove certain ambiguities from the Act that impede the operations of AMCON in carrying out its mandate.

FG orders screening of workers certificates

The Federal Government has directed that a verification and revalidation of all credentials and records of all staff in the Federal Civil Servicebe carried out.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi, gave the directive to officials managing the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System in a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary (Special Duties) in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Amina Shamaki.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday asked the incoming government of the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), not to jettison the ongoing Abuja rail projects.

Jonathan gave the advice while inspecting the project in Abuja.

The President who rode on the train during the inspection expressed delight at the ongoing work.
He said since the project was a noble one that will benefit residents of the Federal Capital Territory and all Nigerians, the incoming administration must continue with it.

EFCC arraigns FCT minister ex-aide for N60m land fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arraigned Muhammed Gital who is a former Chief of Staff to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on land fraud related offences.
 
The EFCC said in a statement by its Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, that  Gital was arraigned alongside, Deputy Director, Mass Housing at the Federal Capital Development Authority, Sani Abba.

APC files six petitions at Ekiti Tribunal

The All Progressives Congress has filed six petitions before the Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the results of March 28 and April 11 National and State House of Assembly elections.
 
The Petitioner’s lawyer, Mr Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who confirmed this to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Thursday said two petitions were filed for the Senatorial poll while four were filed in the State House of Assembly election.

I switched from singing to digital music management

Eldee D Don has debunked rumours making the rounds about his absence from the music scene.
He disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that he had not been absent but only made a transition from singing to online digital music management.

Nigerian couple in the dock for enslaving a man for 24 years in the UK

A Nigerian doctor, Emmanuel Edet and his wife, Antan, has been charged before a West London court after it was discovered that the couple had enslaved a man, Ofonmbuk Sunday Inuk, against his will from the age of 13, for 24 years before he finally managed to escape from them and inform police, reports the Daily Mail Online.

Dr Edet was also accused of human trafficking after he smuggled Inuk into the UK as child. when he was just 13 years old.

Supreme Court bars NASS from amending constitution

The Supreme Court has halted the process of the ongoing constitution amendment.
 
‎The seven-man panel of the Supreme Court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, on Thursday  made the order that status quo be maintained with regard to the issue.

The order was made in the suit filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN), to challenge the  passage of the 4th Alteration Bill by the National Assembly.

Outages ‎force Reps to shut down proceedings

Proceedings at the House of Representatives were disrupted on Thursday due to ‎frequent outages.
 
The development forced presiding Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, to adjourn the plenary of the House till Tuesday next week.
 
The outage affected the air conditioning system of the chambers, leaving lawmakers sweating profusely each time it occurred. 

UI students protest colleague’s death, attack journalist

Students of the University of Ibadan on Thursday blocked the Mokola-Oojo Road in the Oyo State capital and beat up a journalist while protesting the death of a student, Mayowa Alaran.

Alaran was said to have collapsed while watching the UEFA Champions League match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich at the common room of Independent Hall on Wednesday night.

Court fines Ekiti APC lawmakers N100,000

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday struck out a suit filed against the Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and 13 others  by the 19 All Progressives Congress members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

Justice Saliu Saidu after striking out the suit also awarded a cost in the sum of N100,000 against the 19 APC lawmakers in favour of the respondents.

Fraudsters dupe people with my name, - El-Rufai

The All Progressives Congress Governor-elect in Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, on Wednesday raised the alarm that some fraudsters had used his name to defraud unsuspecting members of the public across the state and even beyond.

Specifically, spokesman for the governor-elect, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said the impostor created an e-mail address in el-Rufai’s name and criminally demanded money from the public.

According to the governor-elect’s media aide, the fraudster had sent several messages to people asking them to remit the sum of N150,000 to a Mainstreet Bank account.

OAU Law Student Killed In Accident

A 200 level law student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife identified as Mary Ibitolu died yesterday after she was knocked down by a school.

According to an eye witness account, the deceased was on the motorcycle when the bus belonging to Muslim Girls Model College, Onibu Eja lost control and hit the motorcycle she was riding on. She sustained severe injuries and died shortly at the hospital.

PDP might be heading for a final destruction -MARK

Senate President David Mark on Wednesday raised the alarm that the Peoples Democratic Party might be heading for a final destruction if the infighting among its leaders was not immediately resolved.

Mark, while receiving the Senator Ike Ekweremadu PDP Post – Election Review Committee, in Abuja, said the   acrimony between top members of the party   was dangerous.

He said, “The PDP is already haemorrhaging, unless we halt the bleeding and find the necessary therapy, we may be heading for the final burial of the party.

NEMA receives 3,000 Nigerians deported from Niger

The National Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday said that it had received over 3,000 Nigerians deported from Niger.

The agency also disclosed that by the end of the day (Wednesday), it would have taken custody of over 6,000 Nigerians deported from Niger.

Jonathan marks five years in office with prayer

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday marked five years since he took over the mantle of the nation’s leadership.

It will be recalled that Jonathan was on May 6, 2010 inaugurated as the President by the then Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu.

Buhari pledges electoral reforms, good governance

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has reassured Nigerians that he will not betray their trust, as he assumes office on May 29.

Buhari, who gave this assurance while receiving a delegation of supporters of the All Progressives Congress from Taraba State at his campaign headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, also promised to further reform the nation’s electoral process.

The delegation which was led by the party’s standard bearer in the last governorship election, Senator Aisha Alhassan, was in Abuja to congratulate Buhari on his electoral victory.

Popular Yoruba actress, Mojisola Olaiya is currently mourning the death of her big brother, Alfred Abidemi Olaiya.

Sources disclosed that the 38-year old Alfred Olaiya was announced dead on Monday, May 4, 2015 while the actress celebrated her mother's birthday.
