Lionel Messi scored twice as Barcelona struck three times in the final 13 minutes of the first leg to whisk their Champions League semi-final tie away from a stubborn Bayern Munich side. 
 

The hosts seemed set for a frustrating night before Messi fired a low shot home from the edge of the area.

Teacher arrested in Lagos for kidnapping

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday arrested a teacher and two others for allegedly kidnapping a 62-year-old woman, Kudirat Adeboye.

The teacher, Ifeanyi Chukwuleta, Kolawole Alani and Rasheed Adetunji were arrested while their gang leader, Niyi Omosola, was shot dead as he tried to collect N3million ransom.

The command also said it recovered one double barrel pistol, two expended cartridges and six live cartridges from the suspects.

Buhari orders his security personnel to obey traffic rules

The President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the security personnel attached to him to endeavour to obey traffic rules.

This is contained in a statement released to newsmen by Malam Garba Shehu, Director of Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation.

Ex-speakers seek retirement benefits

Former speakers of states’ Houses of Assembly in the country on Wednesday called for the inclusion of retirement benefits for them in the ongoing amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

Known as National Association of Former Speakers of States’ Houses of Assembly, the group made the call at its meeting in Abuja.

Chairman of the association, Rep. Friday Itulah, said that the demand was necessary so that the members would enjoy same benefits as heads of executive and judiciary arms of government.

Muhammadu Buhari, cannot be worse than past presidents -Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says he believes that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, cannot be worse than past presidents because he will be guided by a sense of history.

He, however, said he “is cautiously optimistic” about Buhari’s performance.
