EKSUTH: The making of world-class institution

Ekiti State residents have access to good healthcare delivery following a gradual but thorough transformation of the major hospital in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital from a state hospital that had just one consultant to a teaching hospital that now boasts of many consultants in major fields of medicine. ODUNAYO OGUNMOLA reports.

Health care delivery is one of the major components of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and one of the most important indices of standard of living of any populace.

The health of the population should be of paramount concern to any responsible government because it has far-reaching effects on the productivity of its citizens.

Hold a “meaningful, serious” dialogue with the African country’s opposition -John Kerry

US Secretary of State, John Kerry, on Friday called Burundi’s election “deeply flawed” and urged President Pierre Nkurunziza to hold a Hold a ''meaningful, serious'' dialogue  with the African country’s opposition, the State Department said in a statement.

Nkurunziza won a third term in office on Friday after the opposition boycotted the vote, accusing him of violating the constitution by running for re-election.

Nkurunziza’s decision to seek a third term plunged Burundi into its biggest crisis since an ethnically charged civil war ended in 2005.

Nigeria commited to good governance, fighting corruption - Muhammudu Buhari

This month, the world moved a step closer to the defeat of Boko Haram, the jihadist group that has terrorised hundreds of thousands in the northern states of Nigeria. In one of my first acts since taking office as president six weeks ago, I have replaced the heads of Nigeria’s army, navy and air force.

Our new military leadership has not been chosen because of their familiarity with those in government, as was too often the case in the past, but on their track records and qualifications alone.
